You Don't Have to Do All Three: Try Triathlon With Just One Leg

The most common reason people don't try triathlon? "I can't do all three."
Fair enough. Swimming and cycling and running are three very different skills. The idea of stringing them all together on race day can feel genuinely overwhelming, especially if you're new to the sport.
So here's the thing: you don't have to.
The Helix Annual Team Challenge — April 12, Gold Coast
Every year, Helix enters a large number of teams in the Gold Coast Triathlon Series — but with a twist. Instead of every athlete racing the full distance, each team member does just one leg. You either swim, ride, or run. That's it.
We put teams together deliberately, matching abilities to build teams that are as evenly matched as possible. A strong swimmer might be paired with a medium cyclist and a faster runner. A slower swimmer might be balanced out by a fast rider and a solid runner. The goal is for all our teams to cross the finish line around the same time — which makes for brilliant, tight racing and an unbeatable atmosphere.
Why this is the perfect first taste of triathlon
Racing one leg gives you everything that makes triathlon great — the atmosphere, the adrenaline, the team spirit, the finish line — without needing to be proficient in three different sports. It's genuinely one of the best introductions to the sport we've found in 13 years of coaching.
You'll be part of a Helix team. You'll meet other athletes. You'll see what a race day feels like from the inside. And you'll finish knowing you contributed to something bigger than yourself.
Most people who do the team challenge for the first time want to do the full race themselves the following season. We see it every single year.
How to get involved
If you've been curious about triathlon but not sure where to start — this is your start. Contact us to express your interest and tell us whether you'd prefer to swim, ride or run. We'll take care of the team matching, the logistics and everything else*. You just show up on April 12th and race your leg.
After the race, if you want to find out more about joining Helix properly — we'll be right there. No pressure. Just a conversation over snacks, the way it should be.
